<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAHTPdYsxe2F6Sp5rS8it2hGVxdcyhjSA-YkX6x5Av69k3CPJds05HSxmiVAS82FxADxLZMw7KzkLroPd99JpIcAC83A-4PdYZV-UxmqUfopx2dYZiIkQbadXv7b5-UiAnZtaAdEVT0Fj9/s1600/3024667-inline-i-side-fb2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: justify;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAHTPdYsxe2F6Sp5rS8it2hGVxdcyhjSA-YkX6x5Av69k3CPJds05HSxmiVAS82FxADxLZMw7KzkLroPd99JpIcAC83A-4PdYZV-UxmqUfopx2dYZiIkQbadXv7b5-UiAnZtaAdEVT0Fj9/s1600/3024667-inline-i-side-fb2.jpg" height="175" width="320" /></a>It wasn't a long time ago when Facebook updated its algorithm, in order to promote high quality articles and reduce the reach of low quality memes. As it seems, this was only the beginning.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
According to <a href="http://co.design/">Co.Design</a>, Facebook is experimenting with a new font for article headlines, which makes it look a lot more like a newspaper. </div>
<a name='more'></a>Although it is still in a testing phase, it makes it obvious that Facebook is interested in the news industry, being hoping to replace news aggregators and feeds. As they mentioned a month ago,<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">
<i>"high-quality articles you or others read may show up a bit more prominently in your News Feed"</i></blockquote>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
With so many daily users and such a large amount of articles being shared every single day on Facebook, it is not a surprise to be testing a newspaper-like news feed. After all, how often do you visit the homepages of your favorite websites in order to browse the news? Don't you usually check your Facebook and Twitter accounts, in order to click on the news that friends and pages are sharing and you find interesting? By liking news pages and following the content that we're interested in, we managed to save time and collect anything we like in a single page.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This has already led the news in a more filtered, customized version of the actual homepages, with each one of us only clicking on specific topics. Can you imagine how the media industry will be affected then if Facebook really plans to become a big newspaper/aggregator that is customized for every single user?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
High quality might be achieved, but how about broader knowledge, that is sacrificed along with the joy of discovering something new and interesting after browsing a webpage? Will we really read what we want? Would you like to have Facebook as your personal newspaper?</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
2013 has been a significant year for social media and we definitely have many things to remember. Milestones have been reached, records have been broken, and we’re now welcoming 2014, trying to predict what the future holds.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We might not have any magical powers to predict the future, but it gets easier if you monitor several social networks during the last years to predict their performance on the coming months.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HOH5M9Q" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" Buy 'Social Media in 2014' now!" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiee8fw-DNiLCGk04MaqCz8M3O1qLhDFzNaueGrA-iy1Gky2SSHhtOm6jhoqOezcs1bGvXQOC4pDka85b7areVIJmgHlfI_IWU6pbXlcMQ2HPALkt_KO2dsuMdJBm5-Mu7HocgLBwgjpcJQ/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-01-05+at+1.22.22.png" height="320" width="243" /></a>Thus, after reading a lot about social media during the past years, I created an ebook with a short review of the past year for each social network, along with my estimates of the year ahead. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><a href="http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HOH5M9Q" target="_blank">'Social Media in 2014'</a> </b>is short and informative and addresses anyone that uses social media, either for personal or professional reasons. From casual Facebook users to business owners that want to leverage the online presence of their business, anyone can benefit from a part of it.<br />
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Although everything happened quite fast, it was a great process creating an ebook, with all the problems that arise in the procedure. Your reviews would be appreciated on Amazon and any opinion is welcome!</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><a href="http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HOH5M9Q" target="_blank">'Social Media in 2014</a>'</b> is FREE for Wednesday January 8, so make sure you grab the deal!<br />

And this also occurs to social media. Every year brings significant changes in this ever-changing field, which means that what we knew during the past year might change really soon.<br />
<br />
That's why it's good to have a review of what to expect and what to improve, before it's too late.<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
In the era of fast and constant changes, 12 months seem like a big period to be predicted. However, if you have studied 2013 in more detail when it comes to social networks and their performance, you can make at least a few initial predictions on the changes to expect.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1KGLTOIJ_IWprQdV03y7ufX-k2bjyz877r1dUea7T113Y3Uof7WtK9JG9m8XCZTMifoGDLWX36RLIH5ddFAZfU-iN1Ewk-s32OzPBAh1ERSrC64JkVhmIcbBAnqyeWWjf6_LR2vZArtiL/s1600/news-feed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1KGLTOIJ_IWprQdV03y7ufX-k2bjyz877r1dUea7T113Y3Uof7WtK9JG9m8XCZTMifoGDLWX36RLIH5ddFAZfU-iN1Ewk-s32OzPBAh1ERSrC64JkVhmIcbBAnqyeWWjf6_LR2vZArtiL/s320/news-feed.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="p1">
Facebook has announced during the week an update to their algorithm that defines what is shown on our News Feed. According to <a href="http://newsroom.fb.com/News/768/News-Feed-FYI-Helping-You-Find-More-News-to%20-Talk-About" target="_blank">their press release</a>, their new focus is on high-quality content, leaving behind photo memes, and call to action posts.</div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"></span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1">Many of us were confused with these recent changes, since it’s not clear yet why Facebook decided to focus on the quality of the news sources. However, since <b>we’re playing with their rules</b>, we should become familiar with the update, in order to maintain a good Facebook presence.</span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1">Thus, as of now, Facebook will ‘promote’ articles from reputable sources on the News Feed, while it will slightly ‘ignore’ <b>photo memes</b> and low quality content.</span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1">And here comes the question: “How do you define quality?”</span></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1">For the time being, Facebook mostly cares about the <b>source of the article</b>, which means that a breaking story will most likely appear on your newsfeed by a big website. Before you start to worry about your site, Facebook reassures us that the change doesn’t mean that it will ‘vanish’ all the small sites, since the percentage of the change will be about <b>10% more for the bigger sources</b>, with 10% less for the smaller ones.</span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1">As for memes and ‘low-quality’ content, they will still be around, but only if Facebook considers they are worth your attention. What’s more, <b>call to action posts </b>(eg. ‘Like to see our new picture’) <b>won’t be as effective from now on,</b> since Facebook has decided that this tactic should be abandoned. Not everyone likes this type of posts, but even if you tried it in the past, you’d better avoid it from now on.</span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1">According to Facebook’s News Feed Manager Lars Backstrom, in a recent <a href="http://allthingsd.com/20131206/like-this-if-you-like-pandas-facebook-says-publishers-shouldnt-fret-about-news-feed-changes/" target="_blank">interview to AllThingsD</a>, Facebook doesn’t try to impose us a specific type of content over another, they are just looking for an increased value.</span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1">Lars Backstrom seemed to talk a lot about ‘<b>user value’</b> on his interview to AllThingsD, with their focus being on personalisation and giving people what they really want to see.</span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1">In his own words: </span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p2">
<i><span class="s1">“There are certainly people that come to Facebook looking to see funny cat photos. And we want to make sure that it’s a good experience for them as well as people who are looking for more serious news.</span>”</i></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1">I must admit that I’m still not sure of what content will be presented from now on on my News Feed. On one hand, Facebook focuses on user value and promotes high quality content, but on the other, <b>why does every link have to be measured for its so-called quality? How do we know the way that quality is measured?</b></span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"><br /></span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1">We don’t like only a specific type of content and of course the time that we log on Facebook affects the content that we’ll like. Thus, sometimes a Grumpy Cat photo meme might be preferred over the World News story, which doesn’t mean that we always pick the one from the other, and vice versa.</span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1">Hopefully things will be cleared out and our personalised News Feed will remain this way!</span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZlwp7f1XFXImzq6zZ6FEWQtSJqLT_59suDQLWj-saNX1oJ6DdGUpY71dvJ8UMBBE9NXDH24X3wZWaU_b8g66CRNhiPYpWQuRZL9HsArM_vN9fC3sHLFL3lBVWg0DetsGm6iaEGu_fI1q5/s1600/americans-consuming-more-news-thanks-to-the-internet-stats--1a791487d6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="179" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZlwp7f1XFXImzq6zZ6FEWQtSJqLT_59suDQLWj-saNX1oJ6DdGUpY71dvJ8UMBBE9NXDH24X3wZWaU_b8g66CRNhiPYpWQuRZL9HsArM_vN9fC3sHLFL3lBVWg0DetsGm6iaEGu_fI1q5/s320/americans-consuming-more-news-thanks-to-the-internet-stats--1a791487d6.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Social networks have significantly changed the way we consume the news and this also has an effect on our news sources.<br />
<br />
How many homepages do you visit every day to read the news? You might have a couple of favorite websites that you check from time to time, but in general, do you need to visit a homepage to read the daily news you want?<br />
<a name='more'></a> Back from the time of RSS readers, it was becoming obvious that the customization of news led you far from the homepage of each website to get all the updates. And then came social networks, replacing RSS readers and news sites as our primary news consumption.<br />
<br />
<u>Twitter</u> has been really good at gathering news, providing you follow the people/sites you're interested in. And if you want to spend some extra time creating lists, then you're able to create a perfect news source, with everything that interests you. Except for Twitter, there's of course <u>Facebook</u>, with your <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5dN0eDZBc4BTBZ_PaSuNKgD1tqlWFOGKQpPKFoCt48i-1H5lTX4cagJKdKQxvPccQNBCwue37ECr5qPKuRDfS2_Y0ybTD8Jl1U1_PEZfWd0js_WAE1YFLYRon2DQdnTV7qMgLjSf04bkb/s1600/aug_290_news_apps_sf_1.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="142" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5dN0eDZBc4BTBZ_PaSuNKgD1tqlWFOGKQpPKFoCt48i-1H5lTX4cagJKdKQxvPccQNBCwue37ECr5qPKuRDfS2_Y0ybTD8Jl1U1_PEZfWd0js_WAE1YFLYRon2DQdnTV7qMgLjSf04bkb/s320/aug_290_news_apps_sf_1.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
friends and the Pages you've liked providing you with a satisfying amount of news. It's up to you to choose the friends and Pages that will provide you with anything new, which leads once again to customization. Both of these networks provide almost instant updates on any new event, which makes any website slow, even if they type at amazingly fast speed a brand new story.<br />
<br />
Apart from the obvious use of Facebook and Twitter, there are also several ways to read whatever you like, and these are my personal suggestions:<br />
<br />
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><u>Reddit</u> to check the news you like </li>
<li><u>Stumbleupon</u> that suggests you articles according to your interests</li>
<li><u>Flipboard</u>, which is like a personalized magazine</li>
<li><u>Feedly</u>, the replacement of Google Reader for many users</li>
<li><u>LinkedIn Pulse</u> is the latest service of LinkedIn and by following the sites you like you get an excellent news source</li>
<li><u>Pocket</u>, which allows you to bookmark the articles you discover when surfing and want to read later on from any device.</li>
<li><u>Evernote</u> by using the Web Clipper to keep the articles you like </li>
</ul>
<div>
There are so many other ways to discover and read interesting stories that it's simply up to you to choose what works better for you. </div>
<br />
<br />
What's your suggestions on consuming news then? Any new service worth trying is more than welcome!<br />

Twitter has gone public and a new era has just started. The problem begins though when it should actually now <b>reach the wider public</b>. There was a big comparison this week with the Facebook IPO time, with many people being unsure on whether Twitter can really make it big.<br />
<br />
It's good to evolve and seek to reach a bigger audience, but are you really capable of doing it? Most of us know that Twitter is very useful for being updated on important news almost in real-time, but we still admit that it hasn't reached the popularity of Facebook, not even close (which isn't necessarily bad for all of us that hate something when its goes big). How does it evolve then from now on?<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
It seems that Twitter is trying to re-establish its presence lately, by testing several services. First there was the feature of<b> previewing images on the timeline</b>. It was an idea that would turn Twitter into a more visual network and up to now it seems to work. It is estimated that tweets with images get 18% more clicks, 89% more favorites and 150% more retweets. What's more, Twitter is<b> integrating television</b> to its service more than ever. This leads to a beneficial collaboration for both sides, since TV shows redefine themselves and Twitter becomes mainstream in a profitable way.<br />
<br />
Apart from that, Twitter introduced this week the <b>custom timelines</b>, a new feature that allows you to as many timelines as you desire, separating the tweets you might need from specific purposes.
And just when you were trying to get used to all the above, Giphy announces that is integrated with Twitter media cards, <b>allowing to play GIFS</b> with a simple click on a link.<br />
<br />
Twitter is aware of the need to reach the public and it seems that there will be even more changes coming up soon.<br />
<br />
However, will Twitter keep its<b> authenticity </b>after the constant changes? Will it manage to expand without losing its fanbase? Are these changes beneficial, leading to more creative ways of using Twitter, or will it estrange its fans?<br />
<br />
<b>Massification </b>doesn't always come without sacrifices and this might be a big challenge for Twitter!

This may turn into interesting

need to <b>adjust to the modern way of thinking</b>, which includes the way we use
social media. It's not always easy to <b>keep a balance</b> between the <b>urge to
over-share</b> and the feeling of<b> being over-cautious for your privacy</b>, but that's
what you need to find. </div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">Moreover,
there is an even bigger change happening on our mind, ever since <b>Google search</b>
has been developed. Day by day, we realise that we don't need our memory the
way we needed it some decades ago, since <b>everything is in our hands </b>with just a
few mouse clicks. This makes us <b>avoiding memorizing</b> any new information we're
learning, knowing that the Internet, or our smartphone will work for us. No
more time-consuming searching at an encyclopedia for a historical date. All you
have to do is search properly to <b>get the answers you need</b> faster than ever.
Even <b>auto-completion is helping our minds once again</b>, allowing us to partially

might sometimes feel like you're in the middle of a <b>brain drain</b>, it's up to you

<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 19.5px;"> In the era of social media, we all enjoy using social networks for personal or professional reasons. </span></span><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; line-height: 19.5px;">Facebook seems like the ideal network. Everyone is using it. </span><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; line-height: 19.5px;">Communication gets easier than ever, borders have disappeared and the world feels closer to you. <span style="color: #444444; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 19.5px;"> Nothing is free. <b>Nothing comes without a price</b> and this occurs to Facebook, too. We're all fascinated by the new shiny social media toys that we don't (always) realize what comes with their use. What better describes this case is the quote above: </span></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 19.5px;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: x-small; line-height: 19.5px;"><i>'If you're not paying for something, you're not the customer; you are the product being sold.'</i></span><br />

<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 19.5px;"> Unfortunately, in the use of Facebook, <b>we are the pigs</b>. We tend to get narrow-sighted, we are impressed by anything new and promising and we tend to forget the consequences of this free usage. When this Facebook world was introduced to us we didn't understand (or didn't want to understand) that it's not as innocent as it seems.</span></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 19.5px;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 19.5px;"> Why is Facebook for free and why doesn't it charge you for its services? How does it keep on going when you use it for free? Isn't it too good to be true?</span></span><br />

<br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 19.5px;"> Hence, you are not the customer for Facebook, but you end up being the product. You might have started as a customer, but now that advertisers are involved, <b>you are the product that Facebook sells</b>. Its impressive number of users makes it appealing to advertisers that want to attract a bigger audience, with relevance of ads making it even better. And while you are busy updating your likes, the movies you watch and the books you read, you are giving away more details about you, allowing to 'sell' yourself, always with your own consent. And what is even more interesting, is that even when you are aware of how things work, you are not planning to get away from this continuous data-gathering process, because you are already hooked to this new way of communicating, networking, and eventually living. And of course, I belong to this category.</span></span><br />

<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 19.5px;"> The post's intention was not to scare you and make you deactivate all your online accounts (ha, did you know that you cannot completely erase your online presence?!). On the contrary, I still believe in the power of social media, the endless positive ways that can be used and the opportunities that they bring up to you. However, I wanted to bring a different perspective to their use, after noticing that <b>many users are too willing to share </b>every tiny detail about their lives. Nothing comes without a price, even when you don't see it at first. Make sure you are really conscious on how Facebook works and makes money, in order to be aware of how both sides use it. And even if you take care of your privacy settings, Facebook already knows a lot about you, so always keep that in mind. Be responsible for the details you are adding about you, and only share what makes you feel comfortable (and not scared if by chance they are found by others). </span></span><br />

<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 19.5px;"><u>Your profile belongs to Facebook, not you</u></span></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 19.5px;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 19.5px;"> Next time Facebook changes its privacy settings without asking you, don't post furious status updates addressing Mark Zuckerberg. Just because you're using Facebook and have your own profile, doesn't mean that you own it, or any details that you're sharing about you. It's like Facebook is giving you a space to express yourself, communicate, network and share content. You're free to use it the way you want, but at the end of the day, <b>your profile belongs to Facebook, not you.</b> You're the tenant and Mark is the owner. He can 'take' it whenever he wants and use it on his own will. And this also occurs for your data. They are using what they find interesting (actually, everything), in order to convert it into the ads you see on the right sidebar of your newsfeed.</span></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 19.5px;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 19.5px;">To sum up, Facebook is not innocent, but it's not evil, either. Keep 'Facebook-ing', but be more conscious from now on. After all, it's not only black and white, so don't panic!</span></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><span style="line-height: 19.5px;"><br /></span></span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3j6iSIAb8EbdCihxZt2B0VMNxqFDVlalJ5Wtg_pc45vET33NU5_qjBVKtLwrqs39D8X1x3XIsvmNcTNO8UvPaL63bIDtdpXbNXxhReqA_DvpZIE4ZNv70GYpYtoKdgq8aReTTbFClkiQo/s1600/geny.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="310" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3j6iSIAb8EbdCihxZt2B0VMNxqFDVlalJ5Wtg_pc45vET33NU5_qjBVKtLwrqs39D8X1x3XIsvmNcTNO8UvPaL63bIDtdpXbNXxhReqA_DvpZIE4ZNv70GYpYtoKdgq8aReTTbFClkiQo/s400/geny.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">
WHO are they (we)?</h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>Generation Y, or Millennials</i>, is referring to the demographic of people born between the '80s and the early '00s. It mostly refers to teens and young adults and is considered the most tech-savvy generation. Most of them grew up along with the Internet and this makes them an interesting generation to study on the use of social media.<br />
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As a GenYer on my own, I can relate to the pros and cons of growing up with the Internet and being constantly connected. That's why I believe in the power of Millennials and will try to decipher them as a target group. Beware, there are many misconceptions that will eventually be clarified.</div>
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: small; font-weight: normal;"><i>(click the image for full size view)</i></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
WHY do they log on?</div>
</h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A huge percentage of Gen Yers logs on daily and for many hours. Internet has become a vital part of their lives and they use it on any occasion. It has replaced phone, MP3 player, television, game console, DVD player, newspaper, etc. This justifies the need for constant connectivity, either to kill time, to watch videos, to listen to music, to communicate with friends, or to meet new people.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">
WHEN do they log on?</h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If we were in the 90's we would discuss about logging on and off the Internet. Nowadays, it's only the location that changes while being connected, and the answers vary from person to person. Millennials know very well the meaning of constant connectivity and that's why they really make full use of it. Thus, it's not surprising that they end up using the Internet before going to sleep, while eating, while working, while queueing, while using the public transport and...while being on the toilet.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1npgXVKGcNzibJ-hiDhh2A9mIH78gKTsD-Azft2CAxB8avy-t-tQLEtWq-sTG0TblHiVsyn_HJtvWshNzQiUlpUhumIpzTLbBV-6X24pePJBW6k1n28vYdst84jw7vQzzOWEQBG7TKRca/s1600/geny1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="310" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1npgXVKGcNzibJ-hiDhh2A9mIH78gKTsD-Azft2CAxB8avy-t-tQLEtWq-sTG0TblHiVsyn_HJtvWshNzQiUlpUhumIpzTLbBV-6X24pePJBW6k1n28vYdst84jw7vQzzOWEQBG7TKRca/s400/geny1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<i>(click the image for full size view)</i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">
WHAT is the Internet effect on Millennials?</h3>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Not every Millennial uses the Internet for the same reasons. Thus, the effects differ for each Gen Yer. However, the Internet is "responsible" for many positive and negative attributes of the Generation Y that grew up along the Net.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Growing up with the Internet improves your multitasking skills, broadens your horizons, allows you to discover endless information, to meet new people, to network, to keep contact with long-distance friends, to learn new skills at a lower cost, to be creative and possibly to be self-employed by turning your passion into a profession. The ambitions of Generation Y have been expanded, feeling part of a bigger world, with no limits and restrictions.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However, nothing good comes without a price. In the case of Internet for Gen Yers, constant connectivity may lead to addiction, loneliness, depression, lack of self-esteem, difficulty in concentrating (due to multitasking), but also in anticipation for instant results (starting from Google search and ending in life goals), arrogance (due to their tech-saviness) and narcissism (the Facebook/Instagram effect).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: right;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>To be continued....</i></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

<div class="tr_bq">
Facebook has decided to extend its Graph Search by incorporating on its search engine the ability to look for posts, status updates, or comments.</div>
<br />
This makes Graph Search more powerful than ever, since users will be able to find any post/comment of their favorite artist/TV show, they could spot their status updates from last year, or the comments they did. What's more, marketers will have an even better idea of their audience and would be able to trace every single mention of what they are looking for.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
As <a href="http://terezalitsa.blogspot.gr/2013/07/does-facebook-graph-search-change-way.html" target="_blank">we have mentioned again in the past</a>, there is a debate on whether Graph Search is useful, or creepy. <br />
Is it the step to the future, or another proof that we're just products with public information for anyone looking for them? The truth is <a href="http://terezalitsa.blogspot.gr/2013/07/does-facebook-graph-search-change-way.html" target="_blank">somewhere in the middle</a>!<br />
<br />
If you're looking to check the new search feature for posts, it's not available for everyone yet, but only for a small number of people.<br />
<br />
Here's what Facebook said about it:<br />
<br />
<blockquote>
Graph Search will include posts and status updates. Now you will be
able to search for status updates, photo captions, check-ins and
comments to find things shared with you.<br />
Search for the topics
you're interested in and see what your friends are saying, like “Dancing
with the Stars" or "Posts about Dancing with the Stars by my friends.”<br />
Search for posts about a city, place or from a certain time, such as
"Posts by my friends from last month," "Posts written at The White
House."<br />
Search for posts you want to see again, like “Posts I commented on” or “My posts from last year."<br />
As with other things in Graph Search, you can only see content that has
been shared with you, including posts shared publicly by people you are
not friends with. Use <a href="http://newsroom.fb.com/ImageLibrary/detail.aspx?MediaDetailsID=4294" title="http://newsroom.fb.com/ImageLibrary/detail.aspx?MediaDetailsID=4294">privacy shortcuts</a> and <a href="https://www.facebook.com/me?sk=allactivity" title="https://www.facebook.com/me?sk=allactivity">Activity Log</a> to review who can see the things you share. </blockquote>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsmBCi9HPtbCYsijnd_PdnKu4b-MCwrvcgNlIHs94BhE5xBIp6JB95V6BLQcRd1Qiw5aWRjjXnpxgFlRR8t8hNGfaCXfTo-5kUCzMQG2mePDVCBrImyBCzMUkwjBJ3Iv-Dod4-Tq3f0S7s/s1600/social+media.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: justify;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsmBCi9HPtbCYsijnd_PdnKu4b-MCwrvcgNlIHs94BhE5xBIp6JB95V6BLQcRd1Qiw5aWRjjXnpxgFlRR8t8hNGfaCXfTo-5kUCzMQG2mePDVCBrImyBCzMUkwjBJ3Iv-Dod4-Tq3f0S7s/s320/social+media.jpg" width="210" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Do you live and breathe on social media? Do you enjoy discovering new networks and communicating with your friends and coworkers through the Internet? Even more, are you working on digital media? Time to question yourself, when was the last time that you unplugged?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We live in the era of<b> constant connectivity</b>, of fast paces and of 'over-plugging'. A power outage can drive us crazy and a day with no Internet is like our worst nightmare. We love using the Internet and we appreciate its usefulness. However, we all have a time when we feel like we need a break. And that's when unplugging is required.<br />
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Digital detox, or unplug</b> is a popular term nowadays and describes the need to get away from the Internet and the social networks, even for a few days. The endless notifications on our smartphones and the numerous emails coming up on our mailbox do not allow us to keep our peace of mind and that's why we need to set frequent unplugs.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
That's what I did last week. I finished all the weekly tasks until Tuesday, notified my coworkers and my clients on the break I'm about to take, left my laptop at home and did not check my mails or Facebook for 5 days. I can't say I did not use Internet at all, since it is necessary when going on a trip, but at least I kept my promise and did not check my mails or my Facebook notifications. These two were my main reasons of the social burn out, and that's why I had to leave them behind even for this short time.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
You can be amazed how calm you might feel when there's<b> no distraction from your smartphone</b>. When setting it in 'do not disturb' mode and turn off all the notifications, it suddenly gets invisible. It doesn't run out of battery and your mind is relaxed.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
What's even better, is that when you get back, you realize the importance of mastering your social networks and not allowing them to overwhelm you. Your life is not only digital and you start controlling the daily use of them.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
To sum up, here are my tips on social media unplug:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<ul style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFI4bStPocFOZFOMGWAiIop9aBLqGKuQBnRFU11yn7jECHnMkFy-f-sfZrWOWC9If1OwW8BWMZ2eLqUpuVCIMd-NDCXbLKd6HmpvDB0hmSQ9dMobXgGCFzGpwxOK8QiQHR0Qyl7k0W6j5X/s1600/unplug.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: justify;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFI4bStPocFOZFOMGWAiIop9aBLqGKuQBnRFU11yn7jECHnMkFy-f-sfZrWOWC9If1OwW8BWMZ2eLqUpuVCIMd-NDCXbLKd6HmpvDB0hmSQ9dMobXgGCFzGpwxOK8QiQHR0Qyl7k0W6j5X/s200/unplug.jpg" width="200" /></a>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Schedule <b>frequent social media breaks</b> and stick to them. Once per week could work well.</li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">If you take more than a day off your mails and work, make sure that <b>your absence will not affect your tasks</b>. Notify in advance anyone that might be concerned.</li>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><b>Turn off all your notifications</b> on your smartphone. Watch out! iPhone requires several notifications to be turned off, in order to make sure that you will not be disturbed. (When you get back you'll realize that you don't need to turn on all the notifications again)</li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Take advantage of your digital unplug and <b>do something you always wanted to do</b>. You'll be amazed how relaxed and fresh you'll feel.</li>
</ul>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When was your last social media unplug then? </div>
</div>

I was about to write on the way things have changed on the era of Facebook and social networking and the loss of privacy. Coming up the next days with a sad-but-true realization.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was born in the late 80s, I grew up with the modem sound, I played Pinball, I had a Playstation and a Game Boy, I left my walkman for a CD player and then turned to iPod. I played Snake on my first Nokia phone and I now play Angry Birds on my smartphone. Most people that were born on that decade can relate with me and many of us have a common <b>digital passion</b>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I always loved writing and popular culture, so I started blogging on my own 5 years ago, doing what I loved. I learned about Wordpress, SEO, HTML for my own curiosity and ultimately got into online journalism. And then came social media. I started with Facebook back in 2007 and just like everybody else, I got hooked to the bait of social networks.<br />
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was in 2012 when I pushed my limits by applying and being hired for a <b>social media associate</b> position. I was doing what I already knew: posting on Wordpress and promoting posts on social media.</div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Image Source: Fast Company</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As I realize now, it's a brand new perception many people have at my age that <b>we can learn and do anything</b>. All you need is passion. If you love what you're doing and trust yourself, you can aim higher. Back to my first professional social media days, although it started as a hobby, I soon found a new perspective on the use of social media. It was not merely posting anymore, but also brainstorming, monitoring and measuring. And day after day, I realized that I loved what I was doing and I was also paid for it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However, there is a <b>social media generation gap</b> that is also evident in social media management. Young SMMs might be arrogant and senior SMMs might disapprove of the younger SMMs due to their lack of marketing and business knowledge. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; text-align: justify;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRQvz_ZsU0AUPOjkUrM2mKIKrFy5IIpQ8VJYrXeT0qm-UaP9M4dJt9DvdLGVjBN9CjLCkAqNMicJD8NokAWt2lwQfJmOdiSBXw0k46e4t5OrDfzQApAYGFgSAvOq0V6jrTzArOfY0QnmlB/s1600/2682f21cf56d4d1cc817e72ffb434720.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRQvz_ZsU0AUPOjkUrM2mKIKrFy5IIpQ8VJYrXeT0qm-UaP9M4dJt9DvdLGVjBN9CjLCkAqNMicJD8NokAWt2lwQfJmOdiSBXw0k46e4t5OrDfzQApAYGFgSAvOq0V6jrTzArOfY0QnmlB/s400/2682f21cf56d4d1cc817e72ffb434720.png" width="265" /></a></td></tr>

</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And the latter could be true, a 20-something SMM might not be aware of the <b>business aspect of social media</b>, but s/he has probably already spent endless hours trying new trends and networks, having at least <b>personal successful social media case</b> to show. <b>Generation Y </b>(which mostly consists of the young adults being in their 20s) knows very well how to handle technology, how to use every new device and social network and how to keep an open-mind on new ideas. It is the first step to a high ladder that might not be stable, but if you manage to make it to the top, you'll enjoy the great view.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The fact that Generation Y has grown up with the Internet and social media creates the<b> problem of balance when using social networks</b>. Especially when you're working as a social media manager, you need to find a way to maintain your casual style, but also to adopt a <b>professional attitude</b> when needed. I've had the dilemma of<b> personal VS professional attitude </b>several times and it's quite often for me to be excited to share a new pop song and after some hours sharing an article on business communication. This could be easily considered as lack of professionalism.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
(Beware, I'm not talking about posting offensive and abusive content, this is not casual style).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Actually, it's not.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's just part of our generation and <b>the way we're connecting</b>. You are simultaneously authentic both to friends and coworkers. Generation Y loves updating their networks (sometimes over-updating) and this means keeping an update either on your fun side, or your professional one.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
At this point, I must thank so many people that have trusted me and never felt discriminated of my age. They exchanged their experience and their trust with my passion and my fresh perspective. And that's what should happen to any case of a generation gap. This balance solves all the problems.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLGVkA-09mXgWBiHQshI6moz-2inY1SyNNGlEVFPtZVBeRpP7foygG7EVFDA9nl9JtzJaNegxrlbC5fb1hUqbaOtGCF_2Zd6lZyjUUzVZYBnfKjI0G34tmK13eFIvHeQkTgr_YQ2C7fiVL/s1600/social-media-manager.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLGVkA-09mXgWBiHQshI6moz-2inY1SyNNGlEVFPtZVBeRpP7foygG7EVFDA9nl9JtzJaNegxrlbC5fb1hUqbaOtGCF_2Zd6lZyjUUzVZYBnfKjI0G34tmK13eFIvHeQkTgr_YQ2C7fiVL/s200/social-media-manager.jpg" width="196" /></a></td></tr>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
For any SMM in 20s that wants to succeed, there is indeed a place for you in this profession. All you have to do is prove you're worthy the chance you'll eventually be given and try to improve yourself day by day. <b>Develop new skills, read, listen, learn and you'll make it!</b></div>

Pages Manager is a useful application that allows you to manage your Facebook pages on the go. As it seems, a brand new update for iOS improves the features that you will be able to manage from your smartphone, with some useful additions.<br />
<br />
From now on you can:<br />
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>Upload multiple photos simultaneously at the same post</li>
<li>Add page admins from the app</li>
<li>Edit the cover photo of your page</li>
<li>Take advantage of the improved insights</li>
<li>Create a new event from your iPhone</li>
<li>Create a new page<a name='more'></a></li>
</ul>
<div>
It seems that they understand that people use their smartphones even more day by day and they need them as functional as possible. All these additions might be considered as minor, but for all the social media managers out there, they can be very useful. Do you agree?</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9SHxMDZWbBZQmx7_K7MK33x3u9W6XtaIVr3eTsE2etaZefAUIbMsEEfDhMQuR7xWgOB4M1fYQBJ72Ez71HCs9-8fYvnXw6lvqLU-4yNaPxakIGGDlm5rqYPYjC1SGkgVRQhGQlZ2rx01c/s1600/gmail-logo-tabs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9SHxMDZWbBZQmx7_K7MK33x3u9W6XtaIVr3eTsE2etaZefAUIbMsEEfDhMQuR7xWgOB4M1fYQBJ72Ez71HCs9-8fYvnXw6lvqLU-4yNaPxakIGGDlm5rqYPYjC1SGkgVRQhGQlZ2rx01c/s320/gmail-logo-tabs.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">If you are a Gmail user, you must have already used the new feature of tabs that splits your messages into categories, according to their type of mail. This feature was introduced by Google in order to <b>help us organize our mails</b>, without feeling overwhelmed by them.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And it actually kept its promise. If you spend some time to organize your tabs with the appropriate mails, you are able to set a priority for each tab and check it accordingly. Hence, you can only check your <b>"Primary" tab</b> during the day and maybe have a look on the "Promotions" on your spare time. However, there is always the danger of the wrong category, which might cost you with a delayed answer to an important mail. What's more, if you are a control freak, just like me, how long can you leave this sign of a new mail (even in an other tab) without opening? </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">New Gmail is trying to show us a<b> new way to use our inbox </b>and it is a step forward. If we adapt to it, we'll explore its benefits. Since then, we'll be more careful for the organizing of the tabs and we'll try to win our obsession with any notification that pops up.</span><br />
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO7pkdlEY4ogIxk94tuNE2UI4JJQS8KEk-50zr9I0V-E0wR757jrguO9y1l7-2ow02QfiIxMQm5E3zaiY8tg2QSh-ugx0Xc8lNA1aMmUlHvtkWj2itjoVladX6TwLfyhUEsKLI_7A4G1aE/s1600/gmail+tabs.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO7pkdlEY4ogIxk94tuNE2UI4JJQS8KEk-50zr9I0V-E0wR757jrguO9y1l7-2ow02QfiIxMQm5E3zaiY8tg2QSh-ugx0Xc8lNA1aMmUlHvtkWj2itjoVladX6TwLfyhUEsKLI_7A4G1aE/s1600/gmail+tabs.JPG" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Last but not least, we should not forget the <b>marketing perspective</b> of this new feature. It has been observed that the tabs have<b> reduced the open rate </b>for the promotional emails, which does make sense, since Promotions are on a tab on their own, and we usually assume that it's the tab with the least important mails. However, this tab is not only about<b> promotions</b>, but it's also about our <b>subscriptions</b>, which are now more frequently ingored. Thus, now that the Gmail user is becoming more demanding with the choice of the mails that will open, marketers face a new challenge, on how to grab their attention.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Let's get now to your experience. Have you noticed a decrease in the number of mails that you're reading after the tabs feature? Are you satisfied with it?</span></div>
</div>

One thing I love about using Blogger for my articles is the integration it features with Google+. Google wanted to cross-use their services- in order to promote G+, but also in order to broaden our reach in an easy way.<br />
<br />
Hence, when using Blogger as a platform, you don't need to worry on the commenting system, on whether to install Discqus, Livefyre or any other service. All you have to do is use your Google+ account and just like that, the comment you make also appears on Google's social network. <br />
<a name='more'></a>This is perfect for the promotion of your post, both from the side of the post's author, but also from the reader's side. Just like that, all I have to do is click on my post and I can see the comments/shares on Google+ and even reply or +1 directly from the post.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj73ISDwoKkIFGKWPywCvaBoWaVixnwIbMQ78mEVnR3zy4X5rcY8QgWLCuEqVFiXBesQIUIm6JPun1UBEij9OHBjBomPtp7RLmjhax8hmQu6zZdFd9uWXXkskDlBYtD01rwbLOz2vS-Ibyw/s1600/blogger.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj73ISDwoKkIFGKWPywCvaBoWaVixnwIbMQ78mEVnR3zy4X5rcY8QgWLCuEqVFiXBesQIUIm6JPun1UBEij9OHBjBomPtp7RLmjhax8hmQu6zZdFd9uWXXkskDlBYtD01rwbLOz2vS-Ibyw/s320/blogger.png" width="271" /></a></div>
<br />
<u>Tip of the day</u>: Google takes into serious consideration your Google+ use and it can significantly enhance your ranking on its search. Google Authorship is another option you should consider, especially if you want to increase the visibility of your posts. I've noticed it recently in action and I'm really glad I'm using Google+! Is there an easier way to showcase your sample and your profile on Google searches?</div>

Facebook has decided to leave aside the Edge Rank algorithm that defined the posts that are visible on each one's News Feed, in an attempt to reward the quality posts and allow us not to miss a thing from the people we want.<br />
<br />
As for now, <b>Facebook introduces:</b><br />
<br />
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><u>Story Bumping:</u> It's not just about the most recent posts, but also about the most relevant ones. If you missed an interesting post from a friend that was posted some hours ago, it will still appear on your newsfeed. This will replace quantity over quality, matching your interests and your relationships. This will be great for Facebook Pages, since an interesting post will have higher visibility, providing that there is engagement and that the user really finds it interesting.</li>
<li><u>Last Actor</u>: If you still like to check the most recent posts, but mostly from the people that matter to you, Facebook tracks your most frequent interactions, in order to notify you about their updates. They thought that if you interact a lot with somebody, it means that s/he belongs to your closest relations and thus, you want to know all their news.</li>
</ul>
<div>
<b>How does the updated News Feed Algorithm work, though?</b><br />
<a name='more'></a> According to Facebook, it tracks down:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<br />
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>How often you interact with the friend, Page, or public figure (like an actor or journalist) who posted</li>
<li>The number of likes, shares and comments a post receives from the world at large and from your friends in particular</li>
<li>How much you have interacted with this type of post in the past</li>
<li>Whether or not you and other people across Facebook are hiding or reporting a given post</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div>
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Graph Search is a new feature that was introduced by Facebook as a way to take the searching to a new level, allowing us to search anything we want in a much easier way. That's the good side of the new service. But since nothing is heavenly sent, there is always another side to examine.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When I first tried Graph Search, I was happy that Facebook seemed to make a present to the marketers, allowing them to have a clearer view on their target audience. However, it was only yesterday when I just clicked on the search box and noticed this pop-up below:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6eOaGmFbALELNI3XlxsW-AUX5CrlkQJkDz5TiLsSvGzwLahkSLArmUcm_apH0RNw3zmSyIekAP3cCYB0XFcOXm4fZBcIEa4OyO50P_qfpaIVxoB26daw0bD0U-DMSiCDlYJHgUvOnoNvT/s1600/graph.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="258" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6eOaGmFbALELNI3XlxsW-AUX5CrlkQJkDz5TiLsSvGzwLahkSLArmUcm_apH0RNw3zmSyIekAP3cCYB0XFcOXm4fZBcIEa4OyO50P_qfpaIVxoB26daw0bD0U-DMSiCDlYJHgUvOnoNvT/s400/graph.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Facebook has created some pre-determined suggestions for us, which can be considered either as useful, or as scary. For a moment, I was not sure whether I like these suggestions or not. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hence, after some thought and research, I've noticed that there are two opposing sides on the usefulness of Graph Search. According to the side you're picking, here's your possible reaction to the introduction of Graph Search:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
1) <i>"Thanks, Graph Search! I needed some help with what to search, what to watch and what to play. If my friends have some things to suggest me, why not try them? It's all about word of mouth, after all!"</i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
2) <i>"Do you mean to tell me Facebook that your Graph Search will determine my choices on movies, games, or new additions of friends? What do you mean by "movies I might like"? How do you know my likes? And what do you mean with "Games my friends play"? Do I have to play what my friends are playing? Why are you labelling me without even realizing it?"</i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Can you relate with one of these sides?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As you can understand, both sides are (more or less) exaggerating. As I said at the beginning, every new thing has both sides. It's up to you to decide how you'll use it. If you're constantly liking new movies, games, artists, etc, then you must be prepared to see more suggestions. Then it's up to you to choose whether you'll keep the choice for yourself, or you'll ask Graph Search for help.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As you can see, you still have the power of choice!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Chrome has finally found a way to turn me into a loyal user of their popular browser. It might not be a new discovery, but I was impressed lately with the ability to add multiple users.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuYlCqtBXkNO2yzOAF3O-Otiy2Z4fd3t55hXpyZT2yAJUbCRbFcnQH_XPNaYRzqSrwoRxJ4w67QIDjLUJczeA4oeNs84-d-29x3mAASPQ5dbyYPtPCNmaN0IVBb0fA7ui-ew1ZjZAM9zQd/s1600/1g.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="218" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuYlCqtBXkNO2yzOAF3O-Otiy2Z4fd3t55hXpyZT2yAJUbCRbFcnQH_XPNaYRzqSrwoRxJ4w67QIDjLUJczeA4oeNs84-d-29x3mAASPQ5dbyYPtPCNmaN0IVBb0fA7ui-ew1ZjZAM9zQd/s400/1g.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I must admit that I was always a Firefox user, with an occasional use of Chrome. However, I always had the problem with the numerous accounts I was handling for my clients, looking for a way to organize them, without logging out each and every time. I tried to install several browsers, but by the time I was obliged to use Internet Explorer for my every day use, I knew that I had to find a more functional way. Then I read about the managing of multiple users on Google Chrome, which allows you to create as many users as you want, add their log in details and simply switch from one another, without losing any passwords, tabs, favorites, or bookmarks. Hence, it's like your having numerous browsers all in one, with all the plugins that Chrome supports anyway. This was like gift!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuYlCqtBXkNO2yzOAF3O-Otiy2Z4fd3t55hXpyZT2yAJUbCRbFcnQH_XPNaYRzqSrwoRxJ4w67QIDjLUJczeA4oeNs84-d-29x3mAASPQ5dbyYPtPCNmaN0IVBb0fA7ui-ew1ZjZAM9zQd/s1600/1g.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><a name='more'></a></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm finally able to juggle from user to user all day long, without having to type all the passwords again, or having to adjust the settings. If you haven't tried it yet, it's very easy to set and even easier to switch from one user to another. Here is the <a href="https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/2364824?hl=en" target="_blank">full guidance</a> by Google Chrome help, in order to check all the steps.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><u>TIP</u></b>: For even quicker access, define through the settings the pages that will open for each user, choosing either by the last visited ones, or the ones you always need for each user. It will save you even more time!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikHG-KEsM1sgl4wpGkKrU3p8Ueekf-glz6a_tdDlE49KTn_h1J8pNymlat_41NWN3injhhSC_yNjqBYY8JMQBv3conZy2NEkGs1sWlVAnGKu7PCwGqiHYDu07ZImqyo8T4bCPCzM1663k7/s1600/related+hashtags.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="261" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikHG-KEsM1sgl4wpGkKrU3p8Ueekf-glz6a_tdDlE49KTn_h1J8pNymlat_41NWN3injhhSC_yNjqBYY8JMQBv3conZy2NEkGs1sWlVAnGKu7PCwGqiHYDu07ZImqyo8T4bCPCzM1663k7/s400/related+hashtags.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Facebook seems to invest on the use of hashtags and they seem to improve their usefulness day by day, making the lives of social media managers easier.<br />
<br />
I was searching for a hashtag yesterday when I noticed that on top of the page there were suggestions for similar tags to the one I was searching. This means that when you're monitoring a specific hashtag you can find useful suggestions with a targeted content for your needs. This is a time-saving feature for social media managers that might want to search for several hashtags, in order to decide which one they should keep for each brand.<br />
<br />
Have you used hashtags on Facebook? Do you find them useful?</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWSCC5w0KHm8uLJlovM9BtTbsDJ-HTh499gpSaXWAJYEIwmhiYH3FE1GohaxBhnesjaWH9VMlOhDFi-gvshFBmzedrBZIuTtDpcIzKNvQgqBCZfSh4kUimgygQ4zUszDa9IeNA_yTrdxH5/s1600/fb+insights.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="301" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWSCC5w0KHm8uLJlovM9BtTbsDJ-HTh499gpSaXWAJYEIwmhiYH3FE1GohaxBhnesjaWH9VMlOhDFi-gvshFBmzedrBZIuTtDpcIzKNvQgqBCZfSh4kUimgygQ4zUszDa9IeNA_yTrdxH5/s400/fb+insights.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Facebook has decided to give a fresh look to the Insights of the Pages and I just had the first try with them. Although it might take a few weeks to decide on their usefulness, while analyzing the metrics with the new way, the first opinion is definitely positive.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Facebook finally understands what administrators really want from a Page. With several new tabs and more details on each one, you can now examine the time your users usually visit your page, the posts that led to bigger reach or engagement, the kind of posts that are more successful and so many other things.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
From now on, you can try the new look and if you're not satisfied, you can go back to the old version. Have a look at the new version, click on some tabs and then let me know, would you go back to the previous version?</div>
</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw3fCtZ929z_JDLo2ztwikhkufrAMoFLtoCw17kPiFIFaehXQT52ZWaY29L8OkgMF6GdaEZs46Cy4voG1kNx0MzFNdcl7ccnwDuNM2jywAxT-1J74Kc0REMtQSMFgmP6-8P5HeEE-j5yjj/s1600/facebook-fans-like-300x288.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw3fCtZ929z_JDLo2ztwikhkufrAMoFLtoCw17kPiFIFaehXQT52ZWaY29L8OkgMF6GdaEZs46Cy4voG1kNx0MzFNdcl7ccnwDuNM2jywAxT-1J74Kc0REMtQSMFgmP6-8P5HeEE-j5yjj/s1600/facebook-fans-like-300x288.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>"I want you to get me 15000 likes for my Facebook page."</i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you are a social media marketeer you might have heard this request. If not, then you might be interested in learning how to get 15000 new fans for your Facebook page. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I won't help on that. I never supported the fake increase in likes and it doesn't even help a brand at all. When you request such a number of new fans from your social media manager you should keep in mind that these fans will either be fake users (although Facebook is trying to spot this), or users that are probably indifferent for your brand. ROI of social media is not simply measuring the number of fans. And
those that do measure it only by these are left on superficial metrics. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As the old saying goes: "<i>Don't judge a book by its cover."</i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Thus, as you are not advised to judge a book by its cover, <b>you should not judge a social media success by the number of fans</b>. Not at least when they are increased in the middle of the night in a suspicious way. Social media entails the word social in it. You create a social presence in order to promote your brand, gain fans that will become loyal customers and convert promotion into sales. Buying fans will not lead in these results and will only allow you to be proud that you have more fans than your competitors. Is this what you're looking for?</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Don't forget that social media require constant monitoring, engaging and measuring. Nothing happens overnight. Make sure you are consistent and authentic and you will reach to your desired goal over time.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<u>Tip</u>: stop counting your fans. At least not day by day. Focus on how to improve your brand's presence and make it more appealing to potential fans. Try to reach them on your own and don't order them like your food!</div>
</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3_H6z9brv-MLs9GLwosf3SsFgaJ0bgBXzC1YfCrhzHbJDRukpypWGF_ICnWOYyDQQIXJSpy9LkkqGhGYP3ZzB673bImX8Xhibevg2ouoCXSrkjWTsyeAZCNP-gHZMd86Hy-P_BTGZ50DC/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3_H6z9brv-MLs9GLwosf3SsFgaJ0bgBXzC1YfCrhzHbJDRukpypWGF_ICnWOYyDQQIXJSpy9LkkqGhGYP3ZzB673bImX8Xhibevg2ouoCXSrkjWTsyeAZCNP-gHZMd86Hy-P_BTGZ50DC/s1600/photo.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I love trying out emerging social networks and the last one was Vine. I had it installed for some time now, but I never spent any time on it. The first time I logged in, I couldn't even create a "vine" with a significant success.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It didn't seem to me that easy to create a motion picture without the effect of an erthquake (this was the magnitude of my trembling at first). However, I was impressed by the creations of the others. I used to read about the success of Vine, but I wasn't sure whether it is a network that should grab my attention. After all, there are many networks out there and this doesn't mean that we should be part of all. Up to now, I always preferred pictures to videos, but I feel that this might change sooner or later. Times change and we simply adapt to them. People consume endless pictures from their timelines and they seem to need more content. That's why they turn to videos. Vine manages to combine motion with picture and all at a short length, just what is needed to grab our attention and not waste our time. Business owners did realise the potential of Vine and that's why we see many brands already embracing it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I don't follow many brands yet, but from the first ones I discovered, I'm impressed with the use of Vine by "Usa Today". They're creating a vine everyday to promote their newspaper cover, in a way that gives you exactly what you want. You're not satisfied anymore by just a newspaper cover and they manage to provide you with all the head news in just a few seconds. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As it seems, Vine does not limit our creativity with the time constraint, but on the contrary, it challenges it. We are asked to find new ways to promote our content, or even have fun. Just like Twitter, when we were asked to express oursleves in just 140 characters, Vine sets us a new goal. If you reach it, you'll be part of this new success. If not, then you're becoming old-fashioned!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
/</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
*I just created a Vine with my blogpost. Find me (@terezalitsa) and rate me! I know it's not a masterpiece!</div>
